iPad battery replacement

The battery is glued across most of the inside of an iPad, so replacing one means getting the display off first and then releasing the cell without deforming it.

It's patient work rather than difficult work.

The difference it makes is an iPad you can take somewhere instead of one tethered to a charger.

Symptoms

Time for a battery when…

  • A couple of hours of light use and it's flat
  • It shuts off suddenly with charge still showing
  • It takes all night to charge, or barely charges at all
  • The screen is lifting at one edge
Important

If the screen is lifting

The display is coming away at the edge. Is that serious?

Yes — that's a swelling cell pushing the screen off the frame, and it can vent. Stop charging it and bring it in. This is the one we'd ask you not to postpone.

It only works plugged in. Battery?

Usually, though it can be the charging circuit. We check both before quoting so you're not paying for the wrong one.

Tethered to the charger?

Bring it in and we'll check the cell and the circuit for free.
