Two faults account for most of what comes through the door: Joy-Con drift, and a charging port that's either worn out or been killed by a cheap dock.
Both are repairs. Neither is a reason to buy another console.

If you use a third-party dock, stop
The single most common dead Switch we see was killed by a cheap dock. Some of them don't follow the USB-C power spec properly and push voltage the console isn't built for, and it takes out the charging chip.
It's repairable — that chip can be replaced. But it's an entirely avoidable repair, and once you've paid for it once you tend not to make the same mistake twice.

Will I lose my save files?
No. Screen, port, battery and Joy-Con work doesn't touch the internal storage. If a board repair ever put saves at risk we'd tell you before we started.
Do you fix the Lite as well?
Yes. The Lite has its sticks built into the console rather than in detachable Joy-Cons, so drift on a Lite is an internal job — still very fixable.
