iPhone battery replacement

Check Settings → Battery → Battery Health. If it's under 80%, that's your answer — the phone will be shutting down early, throttling itself, and dying in the afternoon.

It's the cheapest thing you can do to make a phone you otherwise like feel new again, and it's a far better use of your money than upgrading a handset that's fine apart from the battery.

Sound familiar?

Time for a battery when…

  • It doesn't make it to the evening any more
  • It shuts off at 30% and then claims it has charge
  • It gets warm doing nothing much
  • Battery Health shows under 80%, or there's a service message
One thing to watch for

If the screen is lifting, come in now

A battery that's swelling pushes the screen away from the frame. You'll see a thin gap along one edge, or the display sitting slightly proud. Stop charging it and bring it down — a swollen cell can vent, and it's putting pressure on the board in the meantime.

This isn't us being dramatic to get you through the door. It's the one battery symptom we'd genuinely rather you didn't sit on.

Worth knowing

Two things people ask

Will it say "Unknown Part" afterwards?

iOS shows a battery service notice after any battery Apple's own tooling didn't pair — including genuine cells. It doesn't affect how the phone runs or how long the battery lasts. We'll show you exactly what you'll see so it's not a surprise.

Is it worth it on an older phone?

Usually, yes. If everything else about the phone is fine, a battery is a fraction of a new handset. If the phone has other problems we'll say so rather than take the money.
