Years of pocket fluff compacts into the bottom of the connector and stops the cable seating properly. We check and clean first, and if that's all it was, that's what we'll tell you.
If the port itself has actually failed, that's board work — the connector is soldered on, so it comes off and a new one goes on under the microscope.

Questions we get
Wireless charging works but the cable doesn't. What does that tell you?
That it's the port or its data lines, because wireless bypasses the connector entirely. It's usually good news — a clean, contained repair.
Could it be the cable?
Easily. Try a different cable and a different plug before you come down. We'd rather you saved the trip.
Someone told me it's just a part you clip in.
Not on an iPhone. It's soldered to the logic board and comes off with hot air under a microscope. Whatever video you saw was a different phone.
