PS5 HDMI port replacement

Console powers up, fan spins, light comes on — and the TV says there's no signal.

That's the HDMI port about nine times out of ten. Someone catches the cable, the connector twists, and it lifts off the board.

It's soldered on, so there's no plug-in replacement. We take the old one off, rebuild any pads it tore up on the way, and solder a new port on under the microscope.

Sound familiar?

You've probably got this if…

  • The TV says "no signal" but the console is definitely running
  • You get a picture only if you hold the cable at a certain angle
  • The port looks crooked, or it's sunk into the case
  • Picture cuts out mid-game and comes back on its own
How it goes

What happens after you drop it off

  1. We check it's actually the port. Sometimes it's the APU, and you deserve to know that before you pay for anything.
  2. Old connector comes off without tearing the pads underneath.
  3. Any damaged pads get rebuilt, then the new port goes on.
  4. We plug it into a 4K TV and play something before we call you.

What people usually want to know

How do you know it's the port and not the console?

We test it before quoting. A torn port and a dead video output look identical from your sofa, and it would be a rotten thing to charge you for the wrong one.

My friend said to just buy a new console.

Your friend hasn't priced a PS5 lately. This repair is a small fraction of that, and you keep your drive.

Can I keep using it in the meantime?

Better not to. A loose port can short against the board, and then it's a bigger job.
