PS5 won't turn on

A console that does nothing is frightening because it looks terminal.

Measured, not guessedPS5 and PS4 Most repairs same day 90-day parts-and-labour warranty

Usually it isn't. It's the power supply, or a shorted rail on the mainboard, or one component pulling everything else down.

We measure the board rather than guessing. That's the difference between a repair and a shop telling you it needs a new mainboard.

Dead doesn't mean gone

The two most common causes are the power supply and a short on the mainboard, and from the outside they look exactly the same. That's why we don't quote until we've put a meter on it — swapping a PSU on a hunch is how people spend money twice.

If it turns out the board is genuinely past saving, we'll say so plainly. And if there's anything on the drive you need, tell us at drop-off and we'll make that the priority.

What yours is doing

Any of these sound right?

  • Completely dead — no light, no fan, nothing
  • One beep, then it shuts straight back off
  • The light pulses and never settles
  • It died during a storm or after a power cut
Honest answers

What people ask

Is it the power supply or the console?

That's the first thing we separate, because they present identically and they cost very different amounts to put right.

It died in a storm. Any hope?

Usually more than you'd think. Surge damage tends to land on the PSU or the first stage of the power section, and both of those are repairable.

What if you can't fix it?

Then you've paid nothing for the diagnostic, and we'll tell you what your options are — including getting your data off it.

What it costs to find out

The honest bit about pricing

Most repairs have a price you can get online in seconds. This one doesn't, because nobody can tell you what a dead board needs without opening it — and a shop that quotes you a number over the phone is guessing.

So the diagnostic is $45, and it comes off the price of the repair if you approve it. If you decide not to go ahead, you've paid $45 for a real answer about your device instead of a guess.

Timing: most repairs leave the same day, port work included. Faults like this one are the exception — they have to be traced before they can be quoted, so it is usually one to three days.

Been near liquid at any point? Say so — it changes where we look first, and water-damage repair explains what that job involves.
