PS5 running hot or loud

If your PS5 has got noticeably louder over the last year, that's not it getting old.

Strip, clean, repasteFan checkedTested under load Most repairs same day

It's dust in the heatsink and thermal paste that's dried out, and the fan is working harder to make up for it.

Worth doing something about, because sustained heat is what eventually kills the APU — and that repair is in a different price bracket entirely.

Warning signs

Time for a service if…

  • It's clearly louder than it was a year ago
  • It shuts itself down during long sessions
  • The case is hot to touch and the exhaust air is roasting
  • Frames drop and stutter, then it's fine again after a rest
Why bother

What heat actually costs you

Heat doesn't kill a console in one go. It degrades the solder under the APU slowly, over months, until one day it doesn't come back on. By then you're looking at a board repair rather than a clean and repaste.

A blast of compressed air helps with the dust, but it does nothing about dried thermal compound — and that's usually the thing actually causing the throttling.

The service

What we do

  1. Full strip-down and a proper clean of the heatsink and fan.
  2. Old thermal compound off, fresh applied correctly.
  3. Fan bearing checked — sometimes that's the noise, not the dust.
  4. Run it under load and watch the temperatures before we hand it back.

Sick of the noise?

A clean and repaste is cheap next to what overheating eventually costs.
